M&S District IOM Championship 2017, Round 1
Sunday 26th February 2017
RESULTS

Picture
Hampton Court MYC got the 2017 One Metre M&S District Championship off to a flying start on the 26 February.
With 20 entries and ideal sailing conditions, skippers were keen to get on the water and test their skills as soon as possible. Seeding races  started  just after 10am with all boats sporting their top rigs despite a forecast of strong winds. Seeding Race A was won by John Cleave and Seeding Race B by Trevor Binks.
The wind was coming in from the south west allowing a large windward leeward course to be set on the Rick Pond. The wind strength, as predicted began to build and a few boats ran aground on the lee shore as they were unable to tack away. A short break in racing was given to allow rigs to be changed to the no.2 suit. A couple of skippers decided to hang onto their top rigs but this proved to be a mistake and they later changed down.
Once the fleet settled into the course and wind strength the racing looked very enjoyable and the boats revelled in the perfect conditions.
Following a 30 minute break for lunch the scoreboard showed the leading three as Colin Goodman, Trevor Binks  and Darin Ballington. Racing continued at good pace until 3.45 (the cut off time) by which time nine complete races had been run.
The final score gave Colin Goodman with 10 points a well deserved win (for the second year running). Darin Ballington was second with 14 points and Trevor Binks third with 21 points.
Our thanks go to all the competing helms for supporting the event and giving an excellent start to the 2017 Met. & Southern IOM Championship and also to the HCMYC Race Team for all their hard work in helping me run the event.
